9:00 am: Visit the Cedar Covered Bridge and the Cutler-Donahoe Covered Bridge at Winterset’s City Park on your own, or make it a one-hour guided tour with a step-on tour guide for $8.00 per person through the Madison County Chamber of Commerce.
10:00 am: Head over to MadHaus Gallery in Winterset’s town square where an instructor will help you create your own blown glass ornament or an artistic holiday gift. (Prices vary from $10-30 per person.)
11:00 am: If you have quilters, artists or history buffs in your group, a tour of the brand new Iowa Quilt Museum is a must! The museum offers changing exhibits of American quilts both vintage and new. Admission is $6.00 per person.Or enjoy a tour of the only museum in the world dedicated to Hollywood legend John Wayne at the John Wayne Birthplace Museum ($10 per person for groups of 20 or more).
Noon: Visit the Madison County Historical Complex where your group will enjoy a catered soup, bread, and cookie lunch from Heidi’s Kitchen ($12/per person, all-inclusive). After lunch,tour the Bevington-Kaser House (decorated for the holidays by Pine Creek Ltd). ($4/per person?) Add horse-drawn carriage rides here or at the town square for a flat $500 fee.
2:00 pm: It’s time to do some holiday shopping! Head back to Winterset’s historic town square where you will find many one-of-a-kind gifts, including home and seasonal décor, women’s fashion and jewelry, books, handcrafted items, gourmet food and much more.Don’t forget the gift shop at the John Wayne Birthplace Museum, if you have a fan of the Duke on your list!
4:30/5:00 pm: Visit Covered Bridges Winery for a wine tasting and cheese pairing for $ per person.
6:00 pm: Enjoy a holiday-themed live performance at the Winterset Stage (December 2, 3, 8, 9 or 10 only) along with a full catered dinner by Hy-Vee. Dinner and show- $30 per person.
