Members of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce have decided to expand on Ladies Night Out this year to include a full weekend of workshops, classes, demos, entertainment, shopping, dining and enrichment. Between Friday, June 8thand Sunday, June 10th, Winterset will play host to hundreds of women who are seeking to learn new skills, make their own works of art, relax, have fun and enjoy each other’s company.
Madison County is home to many talented individuals who are more than willing to share their skills with others. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own blown glass heart or bird, wine bottle stopper, fused glass plate or Arashi Shibori Silk Scarf with artist Robin Paul at Madhaus Gallery, or to create a unique piece of jewelry at 1stAvenue Collective. Heartland Fiber is offering several classes including Needle Tatting, Botanical Inks & Paints, Rigid Heddle Loom and Rust-Dyeing Silk Scarves at their shop on the square. Piece Works Quilt Shop will have several demonstrations by Tony Jacobson throughout the day on Saturday, as well as a free make-and-take event. Even the Iowa Quilt Museum is offering two Mini Barn Block Painting classes during the Women’s Weekend.
Classes are also being held for personal enrichment. Participants can learn how to improve their resumes and interview skills, or try their hand at creating a Vision Board at the Madison County ISU Extension & Outreach Services office. Or take a fun fitness class at Winterset Ballet and Dance Studio. The first 100 participants who pay the $25 registration fee will attend an exclusive Kick Off Party on Friday, June 8thfrom 4-6 pm at Piece Works Quilt Shop. They will receive two complimentary drinks, appetizers and desserts, a special commemorative item and Savings Passport for the weekend.
In addition to classes, demos and workshops, many of the retail stores and restaurants around Winterset are offering in-store demonstrations and shopping specials. Ladies Night Out is a very popular event taking place on Friday, June 8thbetween the hours of 6-9 pm. There will be plenty of entertainment during the Women’s Weekend. The Iowa Theater is offering two beloved “chick flicks” – on Friday, June 8 at 8:00 pm, the feature is Fried Green Tomatoes, and on Saturday, June 9 at 8:00 pm, the theater is showing Bridesmaids. Each ticket includes a special dessert from Winterset’s own The Bakery, Unlimited. There are also performances by Winterset Ballet and Dance Studio on Friday evening at 6:00 pm and Saturday at 3:00 pm. Tours of the historic courthouse square and of Madison County’s world-famous covered bridges are being offered through the Madison County Chamber of Commerce.
It’s also a great time to get pampered! Salon 107, an Aveda salon, is offering massages (15-minutes, 30-minutes and 60-minutes), facials, blowouts and brow shaping, all designed to meet your needs and schedule. And once you’re looking or feeling your best, you can have your personal profile picture or business headshot updated by a professional photographer! Both Stacy Z Photography and Teddi Yaeger Photography are available at Salon 107 over the weekend to provide you with a gorgeous new portrait! Appointments are recommended for both the salon services and mini portrait sessions, but walk-ins will be accommodated as much as possible.
