Covered Bridge Festival Memorabilia Display
The Madison County Historical Museum is a treasure trove of old photos and memorabilia related to the first days of the Covered Bridge Festival in Madison County. They’re putting together a great display that will open October 7 and remain open through October 21st, including 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Covered Bridge Festival Weekend. Don’t miss it!
Documentary Movie at The Iowa Theater
A documentary movie has been created by Brenden Pugh of 2/5 Studios to celebrate 50 years of Covered Bridge Festival History. It includes interviews with some of the very first festival organizers, as well as many old photos and stories from years gone by. The movie will be debuted at a private screening honoring former festival royalty on October 6th, and can then be viewed for free during Covered Bridge Festival Weekend at the following times, at the Iowa Theater:
Saturday 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm (followed by a showing of The Bridges of Madison County at 5:30 pm, $10)
Sunday 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm
In keeping with our theme of 50 Years: Through the Lens, we’ve launched a photography contest to celebrate the beauty of our area in six different categories: Madison County Landscapes, People of Madison County, Our Covered Bridges, Harvest, The Covered Bridge Festival, and Local Animals & Insects. Winners will be announced on October 1st, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photos in each category will be exhibited at the Winterset Art Center from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday of the 2019 Festival.
Winterset’s famous Apple Tree Players presented Oklahoma to delighted crowds during the very first Covered Bridge Festival weekend in 1970. How fitting that The Winterset Stage is reviving this classic for 2019! A medley of songs from the local cast of Oklahoma will be presented on the Benge Stage at 1:45 pm on Saturday, October 12th.
Cedar Bridge Ribbon Cutting
After months of hard work to rebuild Cedar Bridge north of Winterset, there will be a ribbon cutting and re-dedication ceremony held on Saturday, October 12th at 5:00 pm at Cedar Bridge Park. All are invited to attend.
Remembering Our Fallen Exhibit
Remembering Our Fallen is a traveling photographic war memorial that honors our country’s military Fallen from the War on Terror. Because 9/11 was such a defining moment, this memorial includes our country’s Fallen since that tragic day in our nation’s history. There are 15 state-specific memorials, and the Iowa memorial will be on display at the American Legion Hall during the Madison County Covered Bridge Festival both days, from 9am to 5pm. It is sponsored by Homefront Real Estate. You can learn more about the exhibit here.
Special Entertainment: DSM Dueling Fiddles
The DSM Dueling Fiddles are planning two fantastic shows on the Penrod Stage: 1:00 pm on Saturday and Noon on Sunday.
