Demonstrations of crafts from the turn of the century, including spinning, bead working, woodcarving, chair caning, pottery, pony
pictures as well as the Farmers Market.

9am - 5pm Passport to the Past
The Madison County Historical Museum is sponsoring “Passport to the Past.” Headquarters will be a tent on the square in downtown Winterset. Children may listen to storytellers here and get their passports. The passport contains a list of activities kids can explore to receive a stamp on their passport which may be stamped at eight locations. When children participate in these interactive stations and collect at least 4 stamps they can be redeemed for a prize at participating businesses.

Clydesdales
Jump aboard the storytelling wagon pulled by 4 beautiful clydesdales (more info at www.horseflowers.com), and hear local folklore as you ride to the Madison County Historical Museum for more fun activities.

Plant a peanut with local gardeners and enjoy appearances by “George Washington Carver”

9am - 5pm History Comes to Life at the Madison County Historical Complex
Catch the FREE horse wagon shuttle to the museum complex for a step back in time. Music, tours of the Victorian mansion, interactive historical settings. New and fun for all ages. Enjoy activities such as:
  • Buy penny candy at the Field Mercantile
  • Get a free balloon at the Martin Bros. Station
  • Stop by the train show in the 1800's Winterset Depot
  • Enjoy an old fashioned school lesson at Tusha School (part of the "Passport to the Past" program), 10am-4pm
  • Visit with Civil War soldiers at the Civil War encampment located north of the museum

Be sure to visit the 2 floor museum and 1856 Victorian Bevington-Kaser House. Admission for museum & house is $5.00.
